A New Birdhouse

good morning bloggers...Christmas is over for another year and I'm like many of you, putting things away. I look at a "year" probably differently than most...I "see" it in my mind. It's like a big oval....ummmm maybe I'll paint a pic if it....

Kahlua Crock Pot Bread Pudding

I would like to share a's yummy, if you like bread pudding...

Actually....what can I share?

I thought yesterday was the 22nd....geeze! So much going on I have lost track of my days. Looks like a hot, sunny Christmas in the South. Perhaps the snow will make it in January. (keeping fingers crossed)

So many of the bloggers I follow have free graphics, giveaways, etc...and I was thinking, what do I have to give? Now, let me tell you, that takes some soul searching. I have lots of "stuff" around her, stuff I need to sell, or donate, yet so many of my "things" are special in one way or the other. Which brings me to what is really special.

Life.  Life is so special, so wonderful, so beautiful. How often do we take the time to just be thankful for our lives? I know I take a lot for granted each day. But, I can't give "LIFE".

What comes next? Peace? Sure, peace is the one gift that each of us can give to each other...peace comes in many forms, a smile, a nice greeting, being together, doing something special for a shut-in....ummmmm saying thank you to the many bloggers who give so much of their time, their talents, their love. So, thank you...each and every one who reads this...thank you for being you. May God richly bless you in love, peace and goodwill during His Season and into the New Year.   peace.....noah

Today, being the first day of the Winter Solstice, I'm putting in my wish for snow. Oh, I'm sure it won't be a white Christmas here in the South, but perhaps after...Mr. Winter, are you listening?

My Woman Cave

Just HAD to add wild violets.....
this old yellow table was my Mama's, I painted it yellow and also a compass rose on the top left side. It will be my table to paint on. The old chair belonged to a sweet old lady. I recovered it and made a little stool to match.

I have started putting things back in my new "woman cave". I'm not sure things will stay where they are now, but I also have to move my computer...probably to the brown is a small room, but I'm so proud of my floor.....

Coastie back on US soil

My daughter, my coastie, called last night. They were finally docking back in New England, but can't leave the ship until this morning.....welcome back darling...

Warm in the South

doesn't seem a bit like Christmas. I don't think I have ever had a white Christmas.....just saying....

the first coat of poly went down on the floor this morning, other than a little pathway to get to the bedroom. The can says it will dry in 4 hours, but somehow I doubt that. AND it calls for 3 coats...we shall see. Now, how am I going to paint the pathway to the bedroom? Build a bridge over it I guess....happy blogging...noah

The "floor" process continues

Here, I have started painting the compass rose.

And this morning, I added a few touches....I have to touch up a few things, then I'm ready for the the way, I punched a small hole for the Raven's eye and thus, the Raven has a small diamond for an eye. I have to touch up around the eye a bit, as well as the violets(can't have anything without a bunch of wild violets....

A Word of Advice for the DIY'ers

As I have begun this project I wonder if I'm nuts(like my hubby thinks.)  First off, putting the wood putty in the cracks between the particleboard went well....however....if you plan to stain said flooring, please, and I say again...PLEASE check your weather report first and plan for a dry, sunny few days.  I, however, did not. I put the dark walnut stain down with a roller....when it was still a bit tacky, I put another coat down.....Had the windows open....and it started raining...thus this is the result:
a wet, tacky, floor. Did anyone tell me I should have put it down with a brush or rag and wiped it good as I did?  NOOOO~~~(not even the person I consulted at Lowe's). I have waited several days and still cannot walk on it without sticking to the floor...heeeee  So, the creative, and I like to think... smart, woman that I am, I started thinking about what would dry up oil. I know cat litter will, but being as I am about out of it for my cats, I went with rice.......
my daughter and I put on a pair of old shoes and "danced" all over the floor, rubbing it in well in the most wet spots...  IT'S WORKING!!!!! I am going to "dance" a bit more, (Lord knows I could use the exercise) and then vacuum it up.....then I will be able to paint my design in the middle of the floor. Once that's all dry, poly will follow(and you better believe I will check the weather report to follow.

Sunday, December 4, 2011

Alright, the woman cave is coming along. The top part of the walls was already this light golden yellow so I decided to leave it that color; for now anyway. The bottom is a dark olive, which my hubby helped me paint. The flooring is particleboard, which my hubby says I'm crazy for trying to do it in my "vision". However, I have put wood filler in the cracks and they are sanded down. Next, I'm going to "try" the dark walnut stain and see if it will cover the wood filler right. I have done my research and Lowe's said it would work. We shall see. IF... if the stain doesn't work, then the floor will be painted the same as the lower walls, then the process of painting the compass rose in the center of the floor will begin....more pics to follow with updates....

A Christmas/everyday lesson in love

So, my friends, I am going to give you a "lesson in love" that I have just remembered/relearned this morning, that hopefully many of you already know, or haven't lost touch of.

I have two best friends that I have had since elementary school. One, I lost touch with for many years to be rekindled with several year ago. We all three picked up right where we left off as if she had never been "missing in action".

We all three love the same things: violets, perfume bottles, junking. When we get together we love to go junking and hunting that one illusive item that the other two will be jealous of...haaa  (not really)

One friend is going through a troubled marriage right now and is finding it hard to get away from home. The one that was "lost" is a single woman who's husband passed soon after we found her again. She swears she never wants another man. However....

She emailed me several weeks ago and asked if she came to my town would I meet her for lunch. I, actually brushed her off, not meaning to, but with the medication I take I have a very bad short term memory. I live further away from the both of them. They live closer to each other and have seen each other fairly often without me.

I always go through depression when the "holidays" begin, and this year is no different. I am a big homebody and do not like to attend any kind of functions, but with the holidays a lot is required, with big family get-togethers, church functions, etc. My house is a wreck with my trying to remodel parts of it myself, my Coastie and her fiance are coming in for a couple days, our big Christmas party is due the 17 of this month..... I'm a wreck.

I got an email from the once lost friend this morning. I had truly hurt her feelings by brushing her off. She is feeling like I had rather see the other "old shoe" friend, etc. etc.  So.....she opened my eyes.

I now have plans to travel to her home for the weekend of the 10th and 11th, hopefully the other friend will be able to come over and we will have a Girls Time, like we have always loved to do.

The lesson, my friends, is...don't let the pressure of anything become greater than old friends. They will never leave nor forsake you, they will never judge you, they will always be there for you, they will always love you despite how you are or have become. They will open your eyes.

Today, I am remembering all that Jesus is, really IS the reason for the season. Take time for the true meaning of Christmas and everyday. Put people first, especially family and friends. Rekindle old relationships, refresh current ones, and love them like there is no tomorrow...

I just love my violets

HOLY's cold

A big frost on the pumpkin this morning. My cat Charlie, who loves to go outside during the day, couldn't wait to go outside this morning, so I went out to get the paper and out he went. I looked out about 5 minutes later and he was sitting all hunkered down on one of my stepping stones. I opened the door and he dashed inside in a hurry...his little pads on his feet were cold. I have another outside cat who never comes in, but has a heating pad in his bed that stays on during the winter. Poor animals that have to stay outside should be given every measure to keep them warn.

Happy Thanksgiving from the USCG

My daughter is underway somewhere near South America...they sent out this wonderful pic and I wanted to share....

Necklace Holder DYI

So, my daughter has tons of necklaces that of course get all tangled up. We just finished redoing her bedroom in a lot of OLD furniture...I had this little "door" with no glass in it...I sanded it down, painted the tarnished hinges and handle with copper paint, put the little hook hangers on and thus, she now has a necklace hanger and her necklaces won't get tangled up....

What is Christmas?

It depends on who you ask. For me, it's become a holiday that I do not get excited about anymore and I wish I did. I have a fake tree(thanks to my husband)that I detest and refuse to put up this year. My house is a complete wreck and I do not see any hope of getting it finished by Christmas with the "remodeling" projects I have going on, thus....I need help. Help with getting the spirit back within me. Any suggestions my blogger friends?

The Wild Violet

A lot of people say the wild violet is a weed. How dare they? They are my favorite flower of all time, however I love all flowers, greenery of all kind, etc. Nature's Garden. Right now, if you look closely, you will find a stray beauty blooming here and there...they are spreading their seeds again. I ordered some pink wild violets but didn't have any luck with them. I do have several different kinds that bloom each year. I not only make pictures of them, I put them in salads, I have made violet sherbet. They are an herb and actually good for you. So, please don't mow those beauties down....let them bloom and prosper...

sorta dreary day

Here in the South we say things like: "sorta and reckon".....I didn't/don't realize I have the Southern Slang until I recently visited my Coastie who is stationed up North. I had quite a few fun conversations...haaaaa

Still working on my flooring, while refinishing tables, etc. to go in the room. The china cabinet is on standby until I'm certain what I want to do for sure.

It's getting down to freezing by tomorrow night and I still have about 8 or so big plants I have to bring in off my covered deck. Now, where I'm going to put them still remains to be seen. Last year, the two places I had them, I also had grow lights over them, but they did not like those lights at all.  So...we shall have to see. I hate it when they drop their leaves from the stress of bringing them inside.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day...hugs, noah

Beautiful Day!!!!:)

Goodmorning, it's another beautiful day in the South. Busy, busy day planned with lots to do. Getting my "woman cave" fixed up. Pics will follow when it's finished.....hugs, noah

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

So far the flooring is doing pretty good. My idea is to do everything I can to get the smell out of the particleboard, then I will stain it a dark stain. Then apply a coat of lacquer. When it is dry I plan to paint a Compass Rose of some design in the middle of the floor. I am still deciding on which design to use. Probably paint stripes around the edge of the floor. I plan to distress the "rose",then another coat of lacquer; perhaps several. I will give it my own technique of course and make it a bit different...maybe colour perhaps? What do ya'll think of this design?

What a mess

I'm ashamed to ask, but does anyone know a good solution to getting cat urine out of particle board?  I found one solution of 1 qt. of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teasp. dish liquid
We "tried", (with three successful litters, but it was just too much) breeding Persian cats and thus one ruined carpet. The carpet is out but the boarding still stinks..before I put anything down I have to get this smell out.  Any ideas?

I collect old egg beaters. I have one just like this, but the handle is green wood on top. I also collect rolling pins. I made a little "holder" for the rolling pins...just have the egg beaters hanging....What all do you collect?  I have too many to name...haa

the "need" to paint

I have several projects that I need to finish for certain people. One is painting on an old long, sharp saw. I am surely glad they are my friends and don't expect a time frame...haaaa

Isn't she lovely

I just saw on another blog that the lady had found a head something like this one...but hers was painted. I wouldn't dream of painting my lovely white ghost.

good afternoon sunshine

Hello all, beautiful here in the south with chill in the air. I must move my plants inside today. It's already gotten below 32* 3 nights now, but thankfully my plants are on a covered deck. The problem is: Where will I put them all?  Working on the old china cabinet here and there, doing my usual household duties.....hope you all have a wonderful day.

Monday, October 31, 2011

Oh Monday-Monday.... I kinda backed the black car into the back/side of the red car.......why????  Oh why????sorta overcast here. I overslept and that always makes for a weary day. Laundry, cleaning...oh so much to do and all I want to do is paint.  So, what should I do??????

Either a hippie or a gypsy....haaaa we had fun at Trunk R Treat

Sunday, October 30, 2011

Reformation Sunday

It's wear RED day today to church. We have several kids who have finished Catechism and will be recognized today. Then tonight is Trunk R Treat for the kids of the community. It was fun last year. I think I have my costume picked out.  What are you doing for Halloween this year?  Have a wonderful day...noah

Tis a Sat'day

My daughter and I went shopping today for some badly needed crafting/painting supplies. Of course I had to have my Starbucks Doubleshot Moca...

It's a beautiful day in South Carolina. The leaves are finally beginning to get brilliant in their color and falling down. I have a lot of tall popular trees in my woods and I love laying on my little deck I built in the woods and watch them fall.

I am anxious to get on to my project of painting weird teapots on my old china cabinet. It's not a fancy cabinet, just one of the unfinished kind that my uncle bought for my mother years ago. Plain straight lines. I'm going to paint tea pots on it and try to keep it dark with copper's browns, etc.  It has a heavy coat of lacquer on it, and rather than doing what I should do and take it all off with paint remover, I'm doing some sanding and see where it gets me....probably mad at myself...but...hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the day...noah

just piddling around

Wintering The Storm

a new painting

da towels

The lady I fixed the towels for loved them. That's all that matters.  I do not think I will tackle towels again. Have any of you ever embroidered on towels?

Thursday, October 27, 2011

The towels are done...yeahhh

I hate trying to embroidery on terri cloth. It's just not meant to be. I had to sew a soft piece of stretch material under the lettering to cover up my knots, etc.  I "guess" I should have done the work on cloth and sewed the cloth onto the towels...oh well,,,let me know what you think?

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

I have finished the towels...YES!  Not a very neat job, but then hand embroidery on terri cloth never is, and in my opinion not worth it. But, I will make a picture of them to add to my many quests....

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Today I am embroidering on towels. Not an easy job due to the texture of the things.  This is for a friend to give as a gift at a bridal shower for a couple that have a little dog that they both hold dear. Thus the ends of the towels will say:
Pretty Girl, as that is the dogs name.

What I really need and want is a sewing machine that will do embroidery. "Hey, Santa, you hear me?"

I have started so many project around the house and none are finished, so I have to start concentrating on finishing something before I start something else.

I'm ripping up old carpet to put down tiles in my dining room, which we never use, to make it into a "Woman Cave" for me and my daughter. I will have my computer, my sewing machine, my paints and crafting things, a small tv with DVD player, and probably the pet rabbit in her big cage. That's about all I will have room for except an old vintage chair that I have covered(and lacks a bit to finish it up)...see what I'm saying?  I have to get organized! HELP!!!

Saturday, October 22, 2011

Can't believe it's October already. It seems seems like we were just having Christmas. Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet?  Wish I had.
