A New Birdhouse

painting

good morning bloggers...Christmas is over for another year and I'm like many of you, putting things away. I look at a "year" probably differently than most...I "see" it in my mind. It's like a big oval....ummmm maybe I'll paint a pic if it....

Actually....what can I share?

I thought yesterday was the 22nd....geeze! So much going on I have lost track of my days. Looks like a hot, sunny Christmas in the South. Perhaps the snow will make it in January. (keeping fingers crossed)

So many of the bloggers I follow have free graphics, giveaways, etc...and I was thinking, what do I have to give? Now, let me tell you, that takes some soul searching. I have lots of "stuff" around her, stuff I need to sell, or donate, yet so many of my "things" are special in one way or the other. Which brings me to what is really special.

Life.  Life is so special, so wonderful, so beautiful. How often do we take the time to just be thankful for our lives? I know I take a lot for granted each day. But, I can't give "LIFE".

What comes next? Peace? Sure, peace is the one gift that each of us can give to each other...peace comes in many forms, a smile, a nice greeting, being together, doing something special for a shut-in....ummmmm saying thank you to the many bloggers who give so much of their time, their talents, their love. So, thank you...each and every one who reads this...thank you for being you. May God richly bless you in love, peace and goodwill during His Season and into the New Year.   peace.....noah

WINTER SOLSTICE

Today, being the first day of the Winter Solstice, I'm putting in my wish for snow. Oh, I'm sure it won't be a white Christmas here in the South, but perhaps after...Mr. Winter, are you listening?

My Woman Cave

Just HAD to add wild violets.....
this old yellow table was my Mama's, I painted it yellow and also a compass rose on the top left side. It will be my table to paint on. The old chair belonged to a sweet old lady. I recovered it and made a little stool to match.

I have started putting things back in my new "woman cave". I'm not sure things will stay where they are now, but I also have to move my computer...probably to the brown table...it is a small room, but I'm so proud of my floor.....

Warm in the South

doesn't seem a bit like Christmas. I don't think I have ever had a white Christmas.....just saying....

Polying...around

the first coat of poly went down on the floor this morning, other than a little pathway to get to the bedroom. The can says it will dry in 4 hours, but somehow I doubt that. AND it calls for 3 coats...we shall see. Now, how am I going to paint the pathway to the bedroom? Build a bridge over it I guess....happy blogging...noah

The "floor" process continues

Here, I have started painting the compass rose.

And this morning, I added a few touches....I have to touch up a few things, then I'm ready for the poly...by the way, I punched a small hole for the Raven's eye and thus, the Raven has a small diamond for an eye. I have to touch up around the eye a bit, as well as the violets(can't have anything without a bunch of wild violets....
hugs..........noah

A Word of Advice for the DIY'ers

As I have begun this project I wonder if I'm nuts(like my hubby thinks.)  First off, putting the wood putty in the cracks between the particleboard went well....however....if you plan to stain said flooring, please, and I say again...PLEASE check your weather report first and plan for a dry, sunny few days.  I, however, did not. I put the dark walnut stain down with a roller....when it was still a bit tacky, I put another coat down.....Had the windows open....and it started raining...thus this is the result:
a wet, tacky, floor. Did anyone tell me I should have put it down with a brush or rag and wiped it good as I did?  NOOOO~~~(not even the person I consulted at Lowe's). I have waited several days and still cannot walk on it without sticking to the floor...heeeee  So, the creative, and I like to think... smart, woman that I am, I started thinking about what would dry up oil. I know cat litter will, but being as I am about out of it for my cats, I went with rice.......
my daughter and I put on a pair of old shoes and "danced" all over the floor, rubbing it in well in the most wet spots...  IT'S WORKING!!!!! I am going to "dance" a bit more, (Lord knows I could use the exercise) and then vacuum it up.....then I will be able to paint my design in the middle of the floor. Once that's all dry, poly will follow(and you better believe I will check the weather report first....pics to follow.

THE WOMAN CAVE

Alright, the woman cave is coming along. The top part of the walls was already this light golden yellow so I decided to leave it that color; for now anyway. The bottom is a dark olive, which my hubby helped me paint. The flooring is particleboard, which my hubby says I'm crazy for trying to do it in my "vision". However, I have put wood filler in the cracks and they are sanded down. Next, I'm going to "try" the dark walnut stain and see if it will cover the wood filler right. I have done my research and Lowe's said it would work. We shall see. IF... if the stain doesn't work, then the floor will be painted the same as the lower walls, then the process of painting the compass rose in the center of the floor will begin....more pics to follow with updates....

HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A WONDERFUL DAY!

A Christmas/everyday lesson in love

So, my friends, I am going to give you a "lesson in love" that I have just remembered/relearned this morning, that hopefully many of you already know, or haven't lost touch of.

I have two best friends that I have had since elementary school. One, I lost touch with for many years to be rekindled with several year ago. We all three picked up right where we left off as if she had never been "missing in action".

We all three love the same things: violets, perfume bottles, junking. When we get together we love to go junking and hunting that one illusive item that the other two will be jealous of...haaa  (not really)

One friend is going through a troubled marriage right now and is finding it hard to get away from home. The one that was "lost" is a single woman who's husband passed soon after we found her again. She swears she never wants another man. However....

She emailed me several weeks ago and asked if she came to my town would I meet her for lunch. I, actually brushed her off, not meaning to, but with the medication I take I have a very bad short term memory. I live further away from the both of them. They live closer to each other and have seen each other fairly often without me.

I always go through depression when the "holidays" begin, and this year is no different. I am a big homebody and do not like to attend any kind of functions, but with the holidays a lot is required, with big family get-togethers, church functions, etc. My house is a wreck with my trying to remodel parts of it myself, my Coastie and her fiance are coming in for a couple days, our big Christmas party is due the 17 of this month..... I'm a wreck.

I got an email from the once lost friend this morning. I had truly hurt her feelings by brushing her off. She is feeling like I had rather see the other "old shoe" friend, etc. etc.  So.....she opened my eyes.

I now have plans to travel to her home for the weekend of the 10th and 11th, hopefully the other friend will be able to come over and we will have a Girls Time, like we have always loved to do.

The lesson, my friends, is...don't let the pressure of anything become greater than old friends. They will never leave nor forsake you, they will never judge you, they will always be there for you, they will always love you despite how you are or have become. They will open your eyes.

Today, I am remembering all that Jesus is, really IS the reason for the season. Take time for the true meaning of Christmas and everyday. Put people first, especially family and friends. Rekindle old relationships, refresh current ones, and love them like there is no tomorrow...

I just love my violets

HOLY MOLEY...it's cold

A big frost on the pumpkin this morning. My cat Charlie, who loves to go outside during the day, couldn't wait to go outside this morning, so I went out to get the paper and out he went. I looked out about 5 minutes later and he was sitting all hunkered down on one of my stepping stones. I opened the door and he dashed inside in a hurry...his little pads on his feet were cold. I have another outside cat who never comes in, but has a heating pad in his bed that stays on during the winter. Poor animals that have to stay outside should be given every measure to keep them warn.
